Health
benefits of Raw
or "Live" food
Everyone
knows it is a healthy habit to eat raw fruits and vegetables every day.
However, it is not as widely known that enzymes
and nutrients in food begin to be destroyed at 106 degrees and that
beneficial nutrients die at 118 degrees. Cooking food actually changes
its molecular structure, which in turn causes our bodies to think
cooked food is toxic.
Cooked
food turns into fat, sugar and toxins, and turns carcinogenic inside
your body. It is harder on our body to digest cooked foods because they
don't have those precious enzymes needed for digestion. Raw fruits,
vegetables, nuts and seeds on the other hand contain the necessary
enzymes and nutrients to complete the digestion process.
Living
raw foods bring amazing health benefits: weight naturalization, balanced
emotions, not to mention you will have more energy and look and feel younger!
Many people have healed their bodies of serious disease and other ailments such
as: Cancer, Diabetes, IBS, Obesity, Blood pressure, Colitis, Asthma,
Fibromyalgia, Arthritis and many more ailments, just from eating Raw foods.
Raw Food Q and A
What
is "Raw" or
"Live" Food
Raw
or living food is food that is uncooked, sprouted, or dehydrated at low
temperatures (under 115 degrees) to preserve the natural occurring enzymes
and nutrients.
What
are enzymes and why are they important?
Enzymes
in food help to break down the nutrients so they can be more easily
assimilated by the body without using too much of your body's own
digestive enzymes. This helps save energy, which aids in slowing down
the aging process, and protecting the body against disease.
What
is “organic” food?
Organic
food is food that has been grown without the use of pesticides and which
has not been Genetically Modified. Those that buy organic food, and grow
their own organic food help to reduce the amount of harmful pesticides that are
used in conventional farming practices.
What
is vegan food?
Food
that is free of animal products, fish, fowl, eggs and dairy.
What
is Genetically Modified Food or GMO’s?
Food
that has been gene spliced with animal genes, viruses and/or bacteria in
order to manipulate its properties.

The next Uncooking class will be on Sunday October 9th, 2pm-4pm. To pre-register e-mail info@rawluv.org
Uncooking classes are a terrific way to learn how to add delicious and fun Raw Living Foods into your diet. Classes last 2-3 hours, and are small so that you have one on one interaction with your instructor. You will learn how to make raw appetizers, main courses and delectable desserts. This class will teach you how to make food that nourishes the body and entices the taste buds. Recipes are simple and fun.
Why take a class?
Working with raw ingredients can be challenging. It often takes time and experience to achieve the desired outcome of certain recipes. Taking this class gives you a great foundation to work from, pointing out details that will greatly help the texture, presentation and taste of your raw creations. It will give you confidence and encouragement, a great way to start off your raw experience! In this introductory Uncooking class you will learn:
Nutritional
tips which will teach you how to get the most health benefits out of your
raw experience.
What
equipment is available and get recommendations based on your needs.
Information
about superfoods, thickeners, oils, vegan raw gelatins, and other ingredients
important to the texture and taste of raw foods
You
will get to make several recipes and take them home with you to enjoy with your
family and friends (if you can resist the urge to eat everything
yourself!).
Meet the Chef
Ferale Erika Hubbard
Ferale is knowledgeable in raw nutrition as well as presentation and taste. She was this year's Best Sweet Bite winner at the 2011 Chef's Night Out for her raw "cheese"cakes. She is enthusiastic about raw foods and is always excited to pass this knowledge on to her students.
Ferale has been working with food in a professional setting since the late 90's. She has traveled the world and many of her raw recipes have been inspired by her 6 years abroad-living and working in Europe and South East Asia. She loved all of the amazing foods she sampled in her travels, but realized that many of them were high in processed sugars, fats, and flours and it was effecting her health in a negative way. Rather than give up the foods she loved, Ferale sought to recreate many of the amazing foods that she has sampled throughout her travels using raw ingredients, unrefined natural sweeteners and sprouted grains and nuts. Many times, she finds that the raw dish is better than the cooked dish ever was!
